Meet the dress I can’t get enough of! This cold shoulder LBD {a.k.a Little Black Dress} shift is perfect for running around doing errands or for working your tail off. It is breathable and light, yet sweet enough to wear for a night out. I paired it with a fabulous Elaine Turner statement necklace for a little extra flair.

I also helped bring the transition of summer to life by adding this fabulous cork tote. Throw your beach towel in it and set off for a weekend by the pool. The look is complete with a pair of adorable {and comfortable I might add} snake-skin wedges.

Elaine Turner grew up in the great state of Texas with a grounded and meaningful purpose and keeps the spirit of giving at the core of her brand. Her styles are bright, fun and the perfect addition to your summer wardrobe!

Get Lean This Spring!

Lean For spring Jumps

To continue the saga of my work out clothing binge, and attempt to start a healthier life style, I am bringing in the big guns! Literally… my friend and fitness trainer/nutritionist, Laine Tvrdik, who has been helping me walk the walk and not just talk the talk to a lean lifestyle.

Laine has taught me quite a bit in a short amount of time. She is great at helping with meal planning.

“I like to give them quick recipes, says Laine. I also like to coach my clients that Spring is a time for their plate to have plenty of greens to alkaline their body and fruits, that provide them with vitamin/minerals and plenty of water.  Here is a favorite recipe of mine, all you have to do is add your favorite protein: chicken, pork, steak, salmon or shrimp.”

In addition to light and quick recipes for Spring, Laine has also opened my heart to a shiny new mindset. You’re hearing this right ladies… you don’t have to spend hours at the gym anymore!!

Lean For Spring Arms

Here are her top 10 tips to Spring nutrition and fitness (that you can do year round):

  1. Change your workoutsweekly, even daily. The body is very efficient and you want to keep it on it’s toes.
  2. Incorporate more Tababta, HIIT, Functional Trainingworkouts in your fitness regimen. {LINK}
  3. If you are a business professionaland travel a lot, you can still get in a QUICK 30 minute workout. Contact Laine@nutritionbylaine.com to receive a FREE MONTH OF ONLINE TRAINING! to hold you accountable and keep you on track.
  4. Take the stairs at work!
  5. Invest in water bottlesand keep around you all the time. (In your car, desk, gym, grocery shopping, etc) There are many different opinions on how much water we should be drinking every day. The health authorities commonly recommend eight 8-ounce glasses, which equals about 2 liters, or half a gallon. This is called the 8×8 rule and is very easy to remember.  Want more energy throughout the day, HYDRATE! (tea and any other drinks that contain water, is not considered your water intake.
  6. Take a daily probioticto keep the gut healthy. Did you know that all vitamin/mineral absorption takes place in your gut!
  7. Take a digestive enzymewhen eating out.
  8. STRETCH! When you are doing intense training, Stretching keeps the muscles flexible, strong, and healthy, and we need that flexibility to maintain a range of motion in the joints. Without it, the muscles shorten and become tight.  Injured muscles may not be strong enough to support the joints, which can lead to joint injury.
  9. NEVER go without eating for more than 3 hours.
  10. ALWAYS have BREAKFAST!

Looking Lovely At Lunch

Ladies Who Lunch

Ladies who lunch, this one is for you!! Are you on the board of a charity, or a part of your local country club? If so, you have probably been to a luncheon. And you have probably been stumped at what to wear.

Being inspired by the upcoming Butterfly Brunch, where I am creating a Runway Styling Experience to benefit the Lake Travis Education Foundation, I wanted to give a little insight on the matter!

Here are a few tips on how to lunch in style from yours truly:

DRESS {like photographed dress} / PURSE / JACKET / NECKLACE / BRACELET / RING

  1. KNOW YOUR CROWD. There are many types of luncheons, and nothing worse than showing up to one under dressed. If you are going as a guest, always ask your friend what the attire will be like. Know if you are heading to a spring dress kind of place or somewhere you should be dressed more business professional.
  1. PLAY IT SAFE WITH COLOR. I like to tell clients it is best to play it safe with color in a situation like luncheons. Don’t go too bright, neon is something to stay away from. But also, try to step away from the black section of your wardrobe. Wearing pastels is the perfect way to stand out while fitting in.
  1. THINK OF WORK AND PLAY. Most ladies going to lunch are working it into a busy schedule. You have to be dressed to go back to your 9 to 5, or head to your next meeting. While carrying a clutch to something like this is a great idea, some times it just isn’t practical. If need be, bring your bag, just make sure it’s one that fits with what you are wearing, and not that old clunky one we all can’t seem to let go of.

Style Tip Of The Month: Athleisure Wear

Athleisure Wear Flat

Hey again, it’s your friend Jen here!! This week I feel the need to discuss a little something I like to call Athleisure Wear… and dig a little deeper into how it can go so right, and oh so wrong.

We all have those days where putting on a dressy dress and your highest heels just isn’t an option. Your feet are going to ache and your slip might ride, and it is the last thing you can handle. So what do we do? Grab those yoga pants and a ratty old tee. WRONG! I want to challenge you to NOT make your first thought be the easiest thought.

The new phrase “Athleisure Wear” isn’t hard to pull off, and thankfully it doesn’t have to be unfashionable for it to qualify as comfort wear!

Bomber Jacket

Feel the need to cover up in a comfy sweater {dare I say from college?} What about a bomber jacket instead? They are perfect for everyday wear and look fabulous when paired with a simple tank or tee. A rose pink or cream color keeps the look feminine, and dressing it up with an embroidered design is right on point with this spring’s trend report.

Here is the way I styled my fun animal print outfit bomber I got from Marshall’s recently. I added strappy heels and a layered necklace and clutch to take my look for a night on the town, but you could easily switch it out with funky tennis shoes to dress the look down.

Track Pants

When it comes to work out wear, bottoms might be the trickiest part of all. You have all heard it before, leggings are not pants! Let me repeat myself in a different way, “tights are also not pants.” That statement just couldn’t be more true especially when I see exposed hail damage peeking through on the backside or a few whale tails in sight. Cover it up people!

As nice as it is to slip on those Lulu’s, we all know there are more flattering things. Try a pair of track pants. You can go the traditional route, or even a sweat pant material. Having an elastic ankle allows for a structured look with a relaxed feel. Pair with a kitten heel as I mentioned above and you are all set.

Sneakers

From top to bottom, we can’t forget about the shoes. I have been on a sneakers kick lately, and my feet have never been so happy! We all remember going shopping for shoes before the first day of school. Having a new pair of pearly white sneakers was a great way to start the new year. With the latest in old school Adidas and New Balance you can feel the nostalgia all over again, only this time with a little more style!

Hope these quick tips will help you feel fabulous even when you head to the store or relax after a hard day’s work.

Styled and Smiling,

Jen Young
