When it comes to the holidays we are all great at dressing the turkey for dinner or our trees with lights and garland. Somewhere we often don’t have the best of luck though, is with our holiday outfitting! If you are anything like me, you want to look put together for all those random photos your parents are sure to take and attempt to post on Facebook… But at the same time that means fighting the urge to throw on your grunge sweats after a long week of preparing food and gifts and table settings and so on and so fourth.

So this year, I’m letting you all in on a little secret of mine – the art of holiday outfitting!

The trick I have learned is that having the correct outfit for working hard in the kitchen (or pretending to nap on the couch) is in the shoes. I suggest going for a flat or wedge for extra support. Use this day as a time to go all out with the denim. I decked my holiday dress with a pair of funky frayed legged skinnies. They are super comfortable and still give off a done-up look. Lastly, and what I think elevates most looks, is going for a top that pops. This jewel toned top is a nice light fabric perfect for running around but also looks great when you are needing that extra touch!

Working with minimal jewelry is also a good way to keep your look simple yet sweet. I usually stick to gold, like my ring and bracelet, around the holidays as it always feels just a touch more festive to me for some reason.

Wishing you all a happy holiday full of love and family!

WORKING WOMEN AND THEIR WARDROBE

Working Women's Wardrobe

October is a month of celebration. It’s the start of Fall, the beginning of the holiday season, and a month full of great causes like Breast Cancer Awareness. Considering all the greatness that October holds, I want to add to the fun! This month I will be focusing on working women entrepreneurs and their inspiring attitudes towards business and life!

I usually don’t limit my styling ideas to a capsule wardrobe… But when it comes to being a busy working woman, sometimes simple and fool-proof is necessary. So instead of saying my entrepreneur ladies need to stick to a 30-something piece wardrobe, I want to show you a few key pieces from each category I think help the working professional’s life go round!

OXFORD  |  TANK TOP  |  DENIM  |  TEE SHIRT

Talking about tops can really only lead to one thing… or in this case four! Every woman needs a white oxford in her wardrobe that she can pair with any pant or skirt. Add in a denim for a more casual look or to mix up your slack game, and end with the best two basics, a tee and a tank, for the PERFECT combination.

BLAZER  |  DENIM  |  LEATHER  |  CARDIGAN

Though I do live in Texas, I find a great need for outerwear. It is good for mixing up an outfit and ideal for going from meeting to meeting as a busy professional. Add a little spunk to your wardrobe with an embroidered leather jacket or a longer cardigan!

TEE SHIRT  |  PROFESSIONAL  |  CASUAL  |  COCKTAIL

Dresses are a great way to create an outfit without having to do too much thinking and compiling. I love a basic tee-shirt dress paired with heels or something a little more frilly like this lace number for your dinner meetings. As a working woman running her own business there is no telling where my day-to-day will start or finish. Having these classic options with such a wide range is key to your style success.

JEANS  |  SKINNY LEG  |  WIDE LEG  |  SKIRT

When it comes to pants, I always tell clients a few things. First off, don’t shy away from skirts! It is a garment I don’t feel we go to often, but is an essential that really can dress up a look when needing something fresh and being on a time crunch. Jeans are also a thoughtful option considering the audience you are working with. Being an entrepreneur means we don’t always have to stick to the work office rules! You can dress jeans up and have an approachable look for new client meetings or more casual events. Hallelujah for that. Wink.

HEELS  |  PURSE  |  CLUTCH  |  NECKLACE  |  STUDS

Accessories are of course the most important part of any outfit. They are considered the finishing touches for your daily dressing routine. First things first, find a comfortable black heel. It partners with every outfit and will save your feet! Understated jewelry like this necklace and earrings are great for keeping your look fresh yet put together. Ladies, always carry a clutch in your work bag to transition quickly from day to night!

To tie it all in, here are a few looks made from all the fabulous items above!

5 Ways to Style a Scarf

Happy Monday Fashionistas!

Hope you’ve been enjoying these cooler nights. Lord knows I have in my mid-life hormonal craziness!

Let’s face it–we’re in that weird weather transition where our days begin in the low 50’s and end in the upper 80’s. So how can we effectively look cute without losing our style sanity?

Let’s focus on 5 ways to style a scarf that can simplify your dressing routine and ultimately make you feel pulled together on these seemingly schizo days.

Here are five different outfits that utilize several types of scarf material, the latest trends, and also links to learn how to tie a scarf itself.

Outfit #1)

One of my favorite looks includes a ‘faux infinity scarf.’ This is a great day to night outfit, especially topped with the leather jacket. It’s a smaller version of a blanket scarf but super elegant yet light enough to wear with a short sleeve shirt {check out this additional post to Style a Basic Tee for more inspiration}.

Outfit #2)

Styling a basic shift or t-shirt dress paired with some riding boots and then accessorize with a wool or knitted type scarf is a “go-to” outfit concept for me. Try the figure eight or loop-n-through concept or simply let the scarf hang around the neck. Keep in mind, this style of scarf often looks best in the fall/winter months because of the bulk of the material, but it is a great staple scarf to have on hand regardless!

Outfit #3)

Plaid shirts are still popular this season coupled with your favorite tall riding boots and jeans. Add a knitted infinity scarf to add more warmth as well as a simple pop of color/contrast. I will be showcasing this outfit myself over the holidays myself. Check out last weeks blog post for more Simple Holiday Outfits like this.

Outfit #4)

This is the perfect professional ensemble if you add a blazer to this concept! Traditional trousers and a plain t-shirt paired with a fun loafer is adorbs. Get crazy and add the latest trend –the neck tie scarf. This dainty add-on can be tied in many ways as showcased in Audrey A La Mode’s blog.

Outfit #5)

Last but not least, get inspiration with a fun skirt and over-the-knee riding boot. Maybe opt for a classic denim skirt or button front style, that is also trending, with a simple double wrap scarf to add some color and pattern. This is the most common type of scarf you might see in stores and something that can be worn all year around depending on the weight and pattern you choose.

So don’t delay–get your day on with the perfect accessory–The SCARF!

DVF Wrap Dress

1070x500tx2016dvf2-1024x478

Hello Ladies!

On November 15th, 2016 the Texas Conference for Women will be held in Austin, Texas. This one-day conference will feature inspirational keynote speakers including the iconic Belgian-born American fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg who is best known for her iconic DVF wrap dress. This timeless wardrobe essential came to symbolize power and independence for an entire generation of women in 1974.

By 1976, she had sold over a million of the dresses and was featured on the cover of Newsweek. This super versatile dress looks perfect on all different body types and can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. Especially for the fall, this dress looks sophisticated paired with riding boots, pumps, or if you’re feeling stylish…sneakers! Furstenberg literally changed American fashion with her relevant and classic design.

Check out some of the wrap styles I selected from Nordstorm, and pick the one that fits your shape and style!

There will also be 100 other speakers like international human rights attorney Amal Clooney, World Cup champion and equal pay advocate Abby Wambach, educator Linda Cliatt-Wayman, and Nina Tassler, the highest ranking Latina in network television {CBS}. There are several breakout sessions ranging from personal finance, health and wellness to career advancement offering something for everyone.

Unfortunately tickets are sold out but the call for volunteers is now open! Receive free registration in exchange for your time. Click HERE!

5 Essentials for Fall

5-essential-pieces-for-fall

TEE // PONCHO // PLAID SHIRT // BOOTS // JEANS

Hello Beauties!

Cooler weather is finally here–thank you God! Freaking out because you’re not prepared?

Well don’t.

Today we’ll cover the trendy 5 essentials for fall to protect you from the chill in the air. There are many different styles, colors, and shapes for each piece offered below so select those that fit your body type and personality!

1.) Poncho

This outerwear piece is a fashionable replacement for a traditional jacket or sweater if the weather allows. I adore the ones made with wool or cashmere material which keep your body warm and cozy.

2.) Plaid Shirt

Plaids are back in action this season and look adorable partnered with a fur vest, topped with a blazer or poncho, or layered with a basic tee and sweater.

3.) Flared Jeans

These jeans were retro and hip for the spring but can also be taken into the fall/winter months. A darker wash is the best for every body type and can be accessorized with a belt and finished off with pumps or ever ballet flats. Try high waisted styles if you dare.

4.) Tall Riding Boots

I can hardly wait to pull out my tall riding boots with a pair of skinny jeans and a tunic style denim top. Black or brown can work but brown tends to be more versatile. Get crazy and partner these boots with white jeans to winterize that key essential from spring.

5.) Long Sleeve Tee

Like I mentioned in last week’s post {Four Ways to Style a Basic Tee}, this is such an easy and versatile essential for all year around. It can be easily dressed up or down. Make sure you focus on the neckline fits you best as you get creative on styling this key wardrobe ingredient.

I hope this summary of the 5 Essentials for Fall will help you take inventory and be smarter with your shopping habits.

What are your favorite places to buy fall clothes and your go-to pieces in this chilly weather? Share the love.

Four Ways to Style a Basic Tee

BLAZER // CLUTCH // NECKLACE // PUMP // JEANS // SHOE //

DRESS // HAT // EARRINGS // HAT // CROSSBODY // CARDIGAN //

TOTE // SHOE // PANTS // EARRINGS // BOOT // RING // SKIRT // CROSSBODY // SCARF

Hey Friends!

Fall is officially here so it’s time to get my creative juices flowing again and pull together some unexpected combinations with all my seasonal favorites that have been hiding in my closet since last year.

With every first time client, I like to start with something as simple as a basic tee {long or short sleeved} partnered with some other key ingredients: riding boots, blazer, cardigan, scarf, and a fun pair of pumps.

Here are four ways to stay current and classy yet accented with a few seasonal trends {like a button front skirt, skinny scarf, velvet, and tassel earrings} by using a basic tee.

2

BLAZER // CLUTCH // NECKLACE // PUMP // JEANS

These new asymmetrical jeans are very “in” right now for fall fashion. Keep this outfit preppy and casual topped with a blazer and statement necklace as you tootle around town! Leopard print is all the rage as well.

3

SHOE // DRESS // HAT // EARRINGS // HAT // CROSSBODY

Hold the fort.. velvet is coming back. Styling this adorable slip style dress with a basic tee underneath is the perfect solution to keep your shoulders from getting a chill. This boho ensemble looks great with a pair of peep toe booties and accessorized with a fedora hat.

4

CARDIGAN // TOTE // SHOE // PANTS // EARRINGS

Now who doesn’t love wearing fashionable track pants? Mind you–I DID NOT SAY YOGA PANTS. This is such a comfortable and fuss free outfit for dinner or even casual Friday at the office.  These trendy metallic loafers and tassel earrings take this whole look to the next level.

5

BOOT // RING // SKIRT // CROSSBODY // SCARF

Last but not least, consider a button front corduroy skirt with a pair of beloved tall riding boots. Channel your inner flight attendant by adding a fun necktie scarf and a timeless animal print cross-body bag.

I always get asked what is my favorite basic tee. Here are my must-haves below!

Comment some of your favorite styles with a basic tee!
