We Wear Chesley Mae

Chesley Mae

When you find something you like… You can’t let it go! And when it comes to Chesley Mae, I can’t stop collecting it either. This jewelry line is perfect for everyday wear and looks fabulous when you dress it up too!

Based on a South Texas ranching past and love for natural beauty, designer Chesley Clark launched her line of gems in 2014. Each piece is made of hand selected stones and is uniquely crafted for fun and practical wear. Chesley incorporates stones, mixed metals, bead-work, and vintage chains to create her one-of-a-kind looks.

Paired with a plain and simple top and loose legged pants or an army green vest over a tie-dye tee, Chesley Mae pieces are great for wearing as a weekend wear accessory. For a girl who feels that even dressed down should be a little dressed up, necklaces like these are the perfect choice!

TOP / PANTS

VEST / SHIRT {like style} / SNAKE BRACELET / LEATHER WRAP / WHITE BRACELET

Chesley Mae doesn’t just go with your relaxed look. Wear them with your casual Friday work outfits, like the one below. This gingham off the shoulder and dark denim allows the purple necklace to pop. And who can get over the details of this stone necklace??

SHIRT / JEANS / BELT / SHOES

SHIRT / POLISH

And last but NEVER least, is wearing Chesley into the night. Every girl needs an LBD (little black dress) and every girl should add a pretty Chesley Mae as well. The layered look is easily accomplished with these beaded strands that stand out in a crowd. I added a simple Chanel given to me by my grandmother, and headed out for a night on the town!

DRESS / SHOES / PURSE

From day to night, Chesley Mae is a lovely addition to your “stylish-yet less is more” wardrobe!

Workout In Style

Outdoor Voices

Hello fellow fashionistas, and maybe gym slackers like myself… Here is the deal, when life gets busy we must find ways to survive. Somethings gotta give, and the easiest one for me to set aside is working out. I mean, cutting shopping is not an option after all!

But something I’ve learned the hard way is that forgoing gym time really only hurts me in the end. As a hardworking mom of two with an entrepreneur’s spirit, skimping out on health is the furthest from smart I can be.

So what does a girl do when she is down in the dumps and unmotivated? She finds a new brand that makes working out feel like a new pair of pumps!

Welcome to the floor… Outdoor Voices.

Workout Outside

This sweet little shop is a new addition to Austin’s style scene, and a gem I can’t get enough of. With a neutral color scheme, comfortable pieces, and the perfect pocket placement, Outdoor Voices has hit the mark for workout clothes/athleisure wear.

If you aren’t sure what to purchase, or are new to the workout scene, Outdoor Voices has a great starter package to help with your shopping decisions. Get a bundled outfit and a free tote to go with! Like OV says, their clothes are “Essentials for Recreation. Nothing more, nothing less.”

I also love that this is a brand I can feel comfortable wearing outside of the gym. With just an added jacket, being ready for errands and meetings after the gym isn’t near as stressful. And most of all, I love how it makes me want to work out again!

Putting on a pair of OV pants with one of their comfy tops is the perfect motivator to get my booty out the door. When busy gets you down and frustrations are at an all-time high, remember just what a healthy life can do to for you.

Strategic Packing for International Travel

Strategic Packing Made Perfect

Happy Monday!

Let’s address something we all likely struggle with… Strategic packing for International Travel! How many of you have loaded down four bags for a week-long trip only to arrive with nothing to wear? Even worse is when you pack just a carry on and then freeze/burn your booty off your entire trip because you were ill-prepared.

Packing can be TOUGH, this is no secret. But packing with purpose can give you peace of mind and zero stress when you are on your trip, but you must make a plan! For a few logistical packing strategies, here is a link to a blog I did several months ago.

Here are also some visual aids to make the physical aspect of packing easier: VIDEO ONE   |   VIDEO TWO

My goal for today’s post is to give you specific tips on actually WHAT TO PACK for a 7 day trip even up to a month’s worth of outfits {if you have access to a washing machine} with a few simple essentials from your wardrobe!

The inspiration for this post came from a recent client session who is taking a seven-day trip to Israel in October. My advice to her was simple, pack with sense and with items that make you already feel confident. Let me expand….

Pack with sense: I cannot stress enough how important paying attention to the weather and the culture is. Knowing the background on the places you plan to go is one of the most helpful things for not only packing right, but also feeling right in your temporary environment. Is it going to be cold? Pack a coat. Does it seem like the weather is warm or seasonably unpredictable? Still bring a light jacket or a simple sweater for layering.

Don’t overdo the shoes {even if you are a collector/addict like me} since they are your heaviest items; also avoid acting like it’s your time to wear everything in your closet. There is no shame in re-wearing outfits in a fresh way every day. This is  not only smart, but no one is going to be judging you in photos if they see a “repeater.” They will be too busy thinking how you were awesome enough to get everything in one bag without paying those overage fees. Keep in mind that there is a 50 pound weight limit even for international travel.

And when it comes to packing what makes you feel confident, do just that: Don’t leave home without your favorite jeans. On the flip side, don’t make your trip the time to “try out” that funky outfit you’ve been looking at for weeks and never actually pulled out of your closet. Packing for a trip is a time to play it safe, because that is what will help you play it smart!

Let’s talk specifics on accessories: think minimalistic. You don’t need to pack every scarf and necklace you own, but you do need to pack your accessories with intention. Wear heavier items on the plane including jackets and shoes, and if you plan to pack a hat, wear it on the plane or pack upside down in the center of your bag. Stuff with knits. Bring a pashmina wrap which can also serve as a scarf later.

With re-used basics, and pops of jewelry we were able to make this trip one of stand-out outfits and save her major room for SHOPPING while in Israel.

Feel free to print out this list of essentials we came up with and share with friends.

Here is the gallery of examples of how we mixed and matched for the perfect outcome:

In case you need some items off our Packing List to complete your look:

So as you start to get ready for your next trip, take time to make a plan, and then enjoy your time away as a result!

But if you start to fret, Contact me and we can tackle this packing thing together!

Bon Voyage,

Style Tip Of The Month: Athleisure Wear

Athleisure Wear Flat

Hey again, it’s your friend Jen here!! This week I feel the need to discuss a little something I like to call Athleisure Wear… and dig a little deeper into how it can go so right, and oh so wrong.

We all have those days where putting on a dressy dress and your highest heels just isn’t an option. Your feet are going to ache and your slip might ride, and it is the last thing you can handle. So what do we do? Grab those yoga pants and a ratty old tee. WRONG! I want to challenge you to NOT make your first thought be the easiest thought.

The new phrase “Athleisure Wear” isn’t hard to pull off, and thankfully it doesn’t have to be unfashionable for it to qualify as comfort wear!

Bomber Jacket

Feel the need to cover up in a comfy sweater {dare I say from college?} What about a bomber jacket instead? They are perfect for everyday wear and look fabulous when paired with a simple tank or tee. A rose pink or cream color keeps the look feminine, and dressing it up with an embroidered design is right on point with this spring’s trend report.

Here is the way I styled my fun animal print outfit bomber I got from Marshall’s recently. I added strappy heels and a layered necklace and clutch to take my look for a night on the town, but you could easily switch it out with funky tennis shoes to dress the look down.

Track Pants

When it comes to work out wear, bottoms might be the trickiest part of all. You have all heard it before, leggings are not pants! Let me repeat myself in a different way, “tights are also not pants.” That statement just couldn’t be more true especially when I see exposed hail damage peeking through on the backside or a few whale tails in sight. Cover it up people!

As nice as it is to slip on those Lulu’s, we all know there are more flattering things. Try a pair of track pants. You can go the traditional route, or even a sweat pant material. Having an elastic ankle allows for a structured look with a relaxed feel. Pair with a kitten heel as I mentioned above and you are all set.

Sneakers

From top to bottom, we can’t forget about the shoes. I have been on a sneakers kick lately, and my feet have never been so happy! We all remember going shopping for shoes before the first day of school. Having a new pair of pearly white sneakers was a great way to start the new year. With the latest in old school Adidas and New Balance you can feel the nostalgia all over again, only this time with a little more style!

Hope these quick tips will help you feel fabulous even when you head to the store or relax after a hard day’s work.

Styled and Smiling,

Jen Young

Frump Free Winter Style Essentials

Greetings Friends!

By now, the Christmas tree is likely put away and perhaps you might be experiencing some post-holiday fashion blues like me?  Sometimes these feelings, heaven forbid, even translate to a bit of frumpiness in my style. Wait, did I just admit that out loud? I am a wardrobe consultant for goodness sake! This proves that even clothing experts can have a bad outfit day. Preposterous.

In an attempt to get my fashion mojo back, I have been perusing the sales racks of my favorite stores and sorting through my closet only to realize that I purged many of my winter essentials in my recent move; this reality has clearly made it a daily challenge to get dressed.

Here are the essentials I uncovered that I was missing– all contributing to my recent frump in my winter style. There is hope for us all yet!

PURSE // CARDIGAN // BOOTS // NECKLACE // SUNGLASSES // COAT // SCARF // JEANS // LOAFERS // SWEATER

1.} Denim Skinny Jeans- This is an important essential for any casual daily routine. Dressed with a tunic style top and tall riding boots for curvier gals or styled with a nice stand alone top and blazer for professionals–this key ingredient is versatile for every shape and lifestyle.

2.} Sweaters- I adore this important staple when you want to look somewhat dressed up but still comfortable! I recommend a more tailored option for String Bean, Peanut, and Pear shaped bodies and a more lose fitted concept for Apples and Carrots. Click here to learn more about dressing for your shape.

3.} Knee-High Boots or Ankle Booties- I wear  my knee high boots and ankle booties on repeat throughout the year which is probably why I had to replace them both this season. If you are scared of buying the knee high options worrying they will go out of style in the near future…that is NOT happening. If you don’t have either of these options…start with the ankle bootie.

4.} Colorful Flats or Loafers- Texas winters look and feel a little different than the more northern parts of the country. For our seasonal footwear, flats and loafers are still acceptable for everyday wear. These look great with skinny jeans or a pair of leggings styled with an oversized sweater or longer top. I also love loafers styled with tapered ankle pants and a sharp oxford style shirt and jacket.

5.} Button-Up Coat- Perfect for after work networking or something to keep you warm at work when the thermostat goes wonky cold and you have no control over the temp. These jackets always look more sophisticated than a boring Patagonia jacket. Looking like a lumberjack is never the goal. Just saying.

6.} Poncho or Oversized Cardigan- This is another one of my favorites for those lazy days of running errands. It is something to throw on with a simple tee, jeans and some tall boots.

7.} Statement Jewelry- The right statement necklace and/or earrings are what I call the finishing touches of a great outfit. These essentials transition easily from day to night. If you ever buy these items in a coordinating set…by all means please break the party up. I am appalled by matchy matchy sets. Can you say cringe in two seconds?

8.} Top-Handle Bag- Something about the cold weather makes me love carrying my coffee in one hand with my top-handle bag in the other. It’s also a great accessory to hold close and easily get things out of when in the cold weather.

9.} Scarves- Infinity or straight designs are a charming addition to any winter outfit. This essential not only can add a pop of color to any neutral palette, but also keep you warm. Check out this amazing video to style a scarf 25 ways in 4.5 minutes! ADORE.

10.} Sunglasses- This crucial accessory can add high style to a simple outfit and can also hide those tired eyes on the hard days. Austin cedar is about to kill me and my allergic self. I woke up this morning looking like a bee stung my eyelids. Future so bright..gotta wear shades even in the rain.

Hope my little tricks and tips can help you avoid the frump in your winter style.  What are your favorite winter essentials that keep you feeling confident? Do share in the comments section below.

5 Ways to Style a Scarf

Happy Monday Fashionistas!

Hope you’ve been enjoying these cooler nights. Lord knows I have in my mid-life hormonal craziness!

Let’s face it–we’re in that weird weather transition where our days begin in the low 50’s and end in the upper 80’s. So how can we effectively look cute without losing our style sanity?

Let’s focus on 5 ways to style a scarf that can simplify your dressing routine and ultimately make you feel pulled together on these seemingly schizo days.

Here are five different outfits that utilize several types of scarf material, the latest trends, and also links to learn how to tie a scarf itself.

Outfit #1)

One of my favorite looks includes a ‘faux infinity scarf.’ This is a great day to night outfit, especially topped with the leather jacket. It’s a smaller version of a blanket scarf but super elegant yet light enough to wear with a short sleeve shirt {check out this additional post to Style a Basic Tee for more inspiration}.

Outfit #2)

Styling a basic shift or t-shirt dress paired with some riding boots and then accessorize with a wool or knitted type scarf is a “go-to” outfit concept for me. Try the figure eight or loop-n-through concept or simply let the scarf hang around the neck. Keep in mind, this style of scarf often looks best in the fall/winter months because of the bulk of the material, but it is a great staple scarf to have on hand regardless!

Outfit #3)

Plaid shirts are still popular this season coupled with your favorite tall riding boots and jeans. Add a knitted infinity scarf to add more warmth as well as a simple pop of color/contrast. I will be showcasing this outfit myself over the holidays myself. Check out last weeks blog post for more Simple Holiday Outfits like this.

Outfit #4)

This is the perfect professional ensemble if you add a blazer to this concept! Traditional trousers and a plain t-shirt paired with a fun loafer is adorbs. Get crazy and add the latest trend –the neck tie scarf. This dainty add-on can be tied in many ways as showcased in Audrey A La Mode’s blog.

Outfit #5)

Last but not least, get inspiration with a fun skirt and over-the-knee riding boot. Maybe opt for a classic denim skirt or button front style, that is also trending, with a simple double wrap scarf to add some color and pattern. This is the most common type of scarf you might see in stores and something that can be worn all year around depending on the weight and pattern you choose.

So don’t delay–get your day on with the perfect accessory–The SCARF!

3 Simple Holiday Outfits

1

It’s getting close to Turkey Day?

How are you getting your gobble on?

I seriously cannot believe it’s almost Thanksgiving… and then Christmas…WHAT?! Of course, these upcoming holidays beg the question, “What in the heck do I wear since it really isn’t even sweater-weather? Can you say 80 degrees in November?”

So today I’ve picked out three simple and fuss free outfit concepts as we transition from Fall to Winter to boost your style and confidence.

Outfit #1

This is a timeless yet preppy concept! Add a pair of skinny or boyfriend cut jeans with your favorite ankle booties topped with a basic tee {like I mentioned in the  Four Ways to Style a Basic Tee post} and a classic blazer. To spice things up,  add a scarf for a pop of color as well as some sparkly studs.

Outfit #2

Partner a shirt dress of your choice and with a pair of your go-to riding boots. Then add a bold statement necklace and some delicate earrings and you’re good to go, girl!

Outfit #3

Now this look has become very popular for the busy mom or for individuals for travel focusing on a Tunic tee. I absolutely adore a this longer style of top if  styled appropriately. I love wearing my leather jeggings or skinny jeans with knee-high or over the knee boots. Avoid wearing anything too bulky on the bottom where your proportions will be out of whack. Finish off the look with a long pendent style necklace.

I hope these 3 simple holiday outfit concepts give your wardrobe a little boost! Remember–you don’t have to go out and buy all new stuff to look and feel great. By reinventing your key essentials, that is all it takes!

5 Essentials for Fall

5-essential-pieces-for-fall

TEE // PONCHO // PLAID SHIRT // BOOTS // JEANS

Hello Beauties!

Cooler weather is finally here–thank you God! Freaking out because you’re not prepared?

Well don’t.

Today we’ll cover the trendy 5 essentials for fall to protect you from the chill in the air. There are many different styles, colors, and shapes for each piece offered below so select those that fit your body type and personality!

1.) Poncho

This outerwear piece is a fashionable replacement for a traditional jacket or sweater if the weather allows. I adore the ones made with wool or cashmere material which keep your body warm and cozy.

2.) Plaid Shirt

Plaids are back in action this season and look adorable partnered with a fur vest, topped with a blazer or poncho, or layered with a basic tee and sweater.

3.) Flared Jeans

These jeans were retro and hip for the spring but can also be taken into the fall/winter months. A darker wash is the best for every body type and can be accessorized with a belt and finished off with pumps or ever ballet flats. Try high waisted styles if you dare.

4.) Tall Riding Boots

I can hardly wait to pull out my tall riding boots with a pair of skinny jeans and a tunic style denim top. Black or brown can work but brown tends to be more versatile. Get crazy and partner these boots with white jeans to winterize that key essential from spring.

5.) Long Sleeve Tee

Like I mentioned in last week’s post {Four Ways to Style a Basic Tee}, this is such an easy and versatile essential for all year around. It can be easily dressed up or down. Make sure you focus on the neckline fits you best as you get creative on styling this key wardrobe ingredient.

I hope this summary of the 5 Essentials for Fall will help you take inventory and be smarter with your shopping habits.

What are your favorite places to buy fall clothes and your go-to pieces in this chilly weather? Share the love.
