Back to School Sale Shopping

Julian Gold | Neiman Marcus | Old Navy | Zara | H&M | Nordstrom | Target | Tory Burch

It is that time of year again! Summer is winding down and everyone knows what comes next…the kids go back to school!

Along with getting back into school routines {cannot come soon enough, honestly}, I also enjoy shopping all the back to school sales!

Whether you are looking to save big on back to school items for the kiddos or if your goal is to get the best deals on summertime looks for yourself, I have gathered a few of my favorite sales:

For Back to School, Target is always my go-to. They always have the best prices on cute school gear and you can usually find some great discounts on wardrobe basics like t-shirts, shorts, jeans, etc. I know when my children were younger I always tried to get the best deals on clothing especially because they always seemed to outgrow their shoes and clothes faster that I could outfit them.

Another great sale for back to school clothes is going on right now at Old Navy. Right now they are having a sale that is up to 60% off! So don’t delay and load up on all your essentials.

If are looking to save big on summer styles just for YOU, I have a ton of other recommendations! H&M and Zara are having MAJOR sales up  to 70% off! Run, don’t walk there, if you are needing items to take your work wardrobe up to the next level. On the local level, Julian Gold is having a sale on all of their summer merchandise!

Next up is one of my favorites…Neiman Marcus featuring high fashion up to 75% off. I love the selection of shoes they have at the amazing prices! Tory Burch is also having a sale that is up to 70% off! If you have had your eye on a special handbag– now is the time to treat yourself.

And last but not least… It is that time of year again!! The Nordstroms Sale is happening now, and boy do they have some of the BEST skin care and home-goods deals you will find all year! I know that sounds silly to think Nordstroms of all places for skincare and home-goods, but they by far have the best prices on candles and makeup during this sale.

Now these are just a few of my favorite sales going on right now so if you know of any you think I should mention drop me a comment below!

Best,

Jen

Summertime Office Attire

It’s June and that means things are heating up. Well outside at least… The same probably cannot be said for the temperature in the office. Dressing for your place of work in the summer can be difficult because temperatures are variable. I have pin-pointed three areas where you can still stand out in your summer office attire while dressing for the contrasting climate.

Three Key Items: Sleeveless Dresses, Strappy Sandals, and Flowy Skirts.

Sleeveless Dresses can be “tricky… tricky” (please read that like you are singing the song) because you want to be sure you are still professional without showing a little too much. The things to remember with summer dresses is you want to check the hemline and the neckline. Avoid deep plunging necklines and keep your skirt length to just above the knee. Tasteful necklines include scoop necks, slight v-necks, and the classic round neck. You can add in your personal style with patterns and fits!

Next on the workwear agenda is strappy sandals! Please start with a fresh pedicure for your weekend flip flops (hello Rose Gold Birkenstocks for all my Austin ladies!). So why not show off those piggies in the office. You can go for the super on trend ankle wrap sandal with the heel you prefer, or the open toe slide! Really, the options are endless for strappy sandals in the office.

Finally, a good go-to piece for summertime office wear is a flowy skirt. I stick to a lighter fabric that moves freely so that I won’t get too hot outside but have enough to keep me covered inside. I like to add my personal pizazz with either a bold print or accessory such as buttons or pleats!

Overall, dressing for summertime in the office is easy! You just need to identify your key items and go from there.

What do you consider summertime workwear essentials?

The Three Colors of Summer

I know I am not the only Austin-ite ready for summer. I am looking forward to spending days on Lake Travis, picnics at Zilker Park, and indulging over some patio dining.

Call me crazy, but despite the heat, I think Texas is a great place to live in the summer months—Austin in particular. Given the diversity of the city and all it has to offer, I often explore the outdoors sporting my more casual fashion as a result embracing the laid-back lifestyle.

There are several trends highlighting “casual” play this season,  including my three favorite colors of summer 2019.

1.} BEIGE – First up we celebrate our friend, Beige. Trend reports enlist “Down to Earth” shades as paramount, so I cannot think of a better color to represent this essential neutral palette. Monochromatic, beige on beige concepts or outfits including dominant earth tones are head to toe looks I personally adore!

2.} FUCHSIA – Next up we have the “Electric Avenue” trend which is all.about.neon! If I have to pick my favorite eye catching color, I am going to have to say, “Neon fuchsia!” I am not afraid of a bold pop of color and have loved pink since I can remember. Fuchsia is a great choice for ladies who are not afraid to stand out in a crowd and take charge. This color is also great for all my Winter Tone ladies out there!

3.} LEOPARD – Finally, we have the “Wild Side” trend. I am going to be completely honest here…I LOVE LEOPARD print. I wear this “trend turned neutral” year round as this print is one of my favorite ways to add a little spice to any outfit. I don’t necessarily recommend a full head-to-toe leopard print ensemble but a subtle printed scarf or fun shoes can take your outfit to the next level.

Now that I have bragged on my three favorite colors for summer 2019, what are your faves? Is there any colors you adore that aren’t on my list?

Comment below and let’s chat about it.

Nordstrom’s Sale Must Haves

TOP  |  GLASSES | PERFUME | UNDERWEAR | SNEAKERS | SKIRT | BOOTIES | TOTE  | FLATS | DRESS | PAJAMAS | MAKEUP | TONING KIT | HOODIE | SWEATER

The time is FINALLY here! The Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale Pre-sale has begun and I am all kinds of excited about it. To celebrate this joyous occasion I am giving you my top picks from the sale, and a little more info on why I think you all might need these items in your wardrobe.

  1. Chelsea28 Bell Sleeve Poplin Top

This top is all that is right with the dramatic sleeve! Paired with skinny jeans or a pencil skirt, you can take it from work to play in a matter of stylish seconds.

  1. Sonix Parker 55mm Sungalsses

In the heat of the summer would there be anything more perfect to purchase at this blowout sale than a fabulous pair of sunnies? Some-times paying a pretty penny for accessories is hard to do. But this tortious shell pattern is great for pairing with both black and brown for a versatile option.

  1. Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb

There is little to say about this perfume except that it is one of my favorites! The smell is not overbearing and lasts all day long.

  1. Hanky Panky Underwear

I’ve said it before, and will say it again… Undergarments are the core to any wardrobe. Having the right items is crucial for making an outfit work. These Hanky Panky underwear are great for seamless lines and a comfortable fit.

  1. Vince Corbin Slip-On

The athleisure wear trend seems to be here to stay for quite some time, and I can’t complain! These slip-ons are great for running to the market or pairing with a dress.

  1. Hinge Barris Block Heel Bootie

In this summer heat it may be hard to picture yourself in booties, but these are an amazing pair I would suggest considering! They are stylish yet classic and will be great for the fall and winter season.

  1. Halogen Corbin Genuine Calf Hair Slide Loafer

Leopard is a neutral and my signature item. These flats are great for getting around town and perfect for throwing into your purse or luggage for extra-long walking days. Cute and comfort is no longer as hard to find, but it is always nice to have a few staples of it in your closet.

  1. Halogen A-Line Leather Skirt

Good leather is hard to come by and great to have. Halogen is a brand I love, and one I use for staple items for many of my clients. Having a skirt that can be dressed up or dressed down is great for your staple wardrobe.

  1. Halogen Flounce Back Shift Dress

Perfect for summer and great with a light jacket for all other times! I have really gotten into the shift dress this year and this one is not only adorable but the vertical lines are flatter on almost every body type.

  1. PJ Salvage Jersey Chemise

A place I see many clients ignore is their sleepwear. It is easy to throw on an old torn up tee or those oversized sweats you’ve had for years. I challenge you to step out of what is comfortable when it comes to pajamas. This little nighty is soft, and will make you feel fabulous when hitting the pillow.

  1. MAC Hooked On Nude Eye Kit

Every girl needs a little makeup in her life! This kit is perfect for staying natural but looking fabulous. I have always given kudos to MAC for their long lasting products, this kit is no different.

  1. NuFace White Trinity Facial Toning Kit

I will be the first to say that doing things to keep yourself feeling fresh and maintained is well worth it. If you haven’t used the NuFace Toning Kit this is a great time to test it out.

  1. Paint Stripe Transporter Leather Tote

The tote that can hold it all but doesn’t look like it! You can bring this to work, pack it for play or even use it as your carry-on. It is fabulous for the working woman!

  1. Adidas Original Trefoil Hoodie

Hello athletic staple item. I have to say; Adidas is a brand I am so happy to still see around. It is a classic look that you don’t have to feel bad about dressing down for.

  1. Nordstrom’s Signature Cashmere Pullover Sweater

Who doesn’t love cashmere?? Better yet, who doesn’t love it on sale! This is one of the Anniversary items that makes everything worth it. To have a piece of clothing with a usually steep price tag for just a pretty penny (almost but not really!) is why I love promoting this sale!

And for all my lovely clients who are wanting some help shopping through the sale, I have just a few spots left for virtual and in-person styling appointments! Email me to book: jen@foreverstyled.com

Floral Silk Minidress

The Dress // Heels // Bracelets (Similar here & here) // Necklaces

Ladies, if you are looking to feel elegant and not lose all form of movement {a.k.a. hemline is too short to bend over}, I have found the ideal minidress for you! This Joie ditty from Nordstrom is the perfect pick. The sheer fabric breathes well for the upcoming heated months. The cinched gathering in the middle gives this rectangular shaped gal a waist {HA}, to a flowy bottom which is perfect for a flirty and fun look.

And did you see that fabulous floral print? My friend and fellow stylist, Jackie Mewbourne, always says, “Prints are personal!” and I agree. Some florals are hard to pull off—often overpowering the person wearing them. This subtle combination of colors and pattern in this minidress is classy and sets the perfect tone for a day to night choice.

If you are looking for a dress to live in, to look and feel great, this is it!

How Best to Dress a Carrot Shaped Body

Screen Shot 2016-06-02 at 3.50.44 PM

Get excited! The last body type we will be discussing in our body type series is the Carrot Shape. Check out the previous tips for styling a Pear, Apple, String Bean, and Peanut.

GENERAL STYLING TIPS FOR A CARROT BODY TYPE: A carrot body type is also referred to as an inverted triangle. You have a proportionally larger upper body including broad shoulders, an ample bust, and a wide back. Your hips are slim and your bottom may have a tendency towards the flat side. Your waist is subtle and you have a tendency to gain weight in your belly and upper body. Your beautiful, shapely legs are your best asset.

Thinking this frame isn’t yours? Explore each of the other body types here: Pear, Apple, String Bean, and Peanut.

Carrot Body Type-4

ONE // TWO // THREE // FOUR // FIVE // SIX // SEVEN // EIGHT // NINE // TEN // ELEVEN // TWLEVE // THIRTEEN

WHAT TO WEAR:

  1. SHORTS AND PANTS: You are one of the lucky ones because you have a really wide choice of pants and jeans that look absolutely great on you! Go for any style that will accentuate your hips and bottom such as pockets and embellishments. The best styles for you are baggy pants, combat, wide leg and palazzo! Colorful and bright pants and jeans will look great, as will patterns and bold prints. Choose pants that will enhance your lower body and help balance your upper body. Boot cut or slightly flared trousers cut jeans are most attractive. Whiskering at the hips and flap packets will add curves to your lower half. AVOID: Skinny jeans and fitted pants that will accentuate the disproportion of the bottom part with the upper body. If you really like to wear tight pants, prefer instead straight legs or cigarette styles.
  2. SKIRTS AND DRESSES: A-line, tulip style and full circle skirts and dresses fill out your slight hips while balancing your upper body. Look for details around the hips {such as panels, ruffles, & pleats} or bright bold colors and prints to further enhance the effect. Pencil skirts are best if they drop straight from the waist instead of coming in towards the knee. You have great legs so feel free to play with length.
  3. TOPS: Flowey, drapey and light fabrics. Go for halter necks that will look absolutely great also to show off your gorgeous cleavage. If on the other hand your chest is quite small and you have a longer neck, choose higher necklines such as turtle, polo and mandarin necks.  The trick is to not button it up to the top but leave a couple of buttons open. Look for tops that accentuate your waist and help balance your bust with your hips. Narrow V-necks that nip in the waist and slightly flare at the hip are flattering for you. Wrap style tops with a deep V-neck and that are also flared slightly will add curves to your hips. Wear deep shawl collared or lightly coweled tops, especially in dark colors with a light shell underneath. Look for shirts with vertical details on the upper body. AVOID: Stay away from stiff materials that will hide your silhouette unless they are super tailored and have a bit of a stretch. Avoid necklines that will make your shoulders look broader such as boat necks. Steer away from small spaghetti strapped tops that will tend to make your shoulders look wider and other details such as puffy sleeves, shoulder pads and anything oversized and shapeless.
  4. JACKETS/ OUTERWEAR: Jackets with deep V-necklines that cinch the waist and flare at the bottom {peplum.} Go for those that are quite constructed and shaped with angular lines as well and look for details such as pockets and embellishments in the lower part.
  5. FOOTWEAR: Opt for curvier and rounded options like ballerina flats and pumps. Your choices are varied for your shape, but if you are really thin, stay away from really high heels as you will look like a “bean” pole and a bit awkward. You can wear ankle straps and also over the knee boots as well and ankle booties especially if they are larger that your ankle adding movement to your figure.
  6. ACCESSORIES: Opt instead for long pendant necklaces that will create a focus in the center of the body. Go for colorful, big, bulky and detailed handbags and avoid clutches. AVOID: Colorful scarves, statement necklaces and chokers that will attract the attention on your upper part and the shoulders’ area. Or choose daintier statement necklaces as an alternative.
  7. SWIMWEAR: Simple, solid color, halter style tops are a good choice for you. Dark, triangle tops can be good as well as long as you choose one with adequate coverage and support. Look for styles with wider straps. Bottoms that cut straight across your hips with side ties with look great with simple tops. Look for one piece suits with cut-out sides, hip details and deep V-necks. AVOID: Patterned tops with solid bottoms.

Hope you enjoyed learning all the body types; have a fun and stylish Monday!

How Best to Dress a Pear Shaped Body

Screen Shot 2016-03-06 at 10.00.11 AM

Styling for different body types can be tough but with these tips and tricks, it becomes quite easy! In the coming weeks we will explore each of the five body types {Pear, Apple, Hourglass, String Bean, and Carrot}. Today we’ll look at the pear shaped body!

Screen Shot 2016-03-06 at 9.46.57 AM

one // two // three // four // five // six // seven // eight // nine // ten // eleven // twelve // thirteen // fourteen

GENERAL STYLING TIPS FOR A PEAR: Curvy hips, thick thighs, and a full rear are the key characteristics of the pear-shaped woman. Many pear shapes also have a small bust, narrow shoulders, and a defined waist. Keep your proportions in check by drawing the eye to your upper body while de-emphasizing your lower half.

WHAT TO WEAR:

  1. SHORTS/PANTS: Choose pants that are straight leg or flared at the bottom to create a bottom half with full volume all the way down. Jeans that are equal width or slightly wider in the calf and ankle area will draw attention away from your mid-section. Look for darker color options on the bottom half for contrast. AVOID: Avoid skinny pants, as they will showcase the size of your hips/rear. Cigarette-style pants are the least flattering style for a pear-shaped figure, as well as cargo pants and pants with excessive detailing such as bold embroidery, rhinestones, etc.
  2. SKIRTS: Skirts that hit the knee or ankle are perfect for pear-shaped ladies.
Avoid tight-fitting skirts, and look for those with ruffles or beading along the bottom hem which draw attention to your curvy bottom half without adding bulk to your hips. AVOID: Pencil, mini and straight skirts.
  3. DRESSES: Wrap dresses look fabulous on nearly every body type especially yours. Do look for dresses that show off your arms and even out proportions. Look for dresses that are A-line or that have a tulip-skirt. Color blocked dresses and dresses with a belted waist are fabulous as well. AVOID: Those that are tight and stick to your hips.
  4. TOPS: Look for tops that are tight around the waist highlighting your asset. Loose tops should be worn a bit long so as to cover the hips and provide substance for the shoulders. In general, the fit of your shirts should aim to highlight your waist and shoulders. The ideal sleeve style are wide-sleeved shirts or those with rolled or scrunched sleeves. The ideal top length is just below your hipbone to extend your torso and mask the widest part of your hips. AVOID: Tops with narrow shoulder lines. Crop tops should be widely avoided for drawing attention to your midsection, which is too close to your hips to be flattering.
  5. JACKETS/OUTERWEAR: Look for jackets that hit right above the waist or below the widest part of your hips and bottom. Wear structured A-shaped coats at knee length. A great coat for you is the trench. AVOID: Mid ankle trench coats and full-length jackets.
  6. FOOTWEAR: Opt for pointy toed or an almond toe shoe to help elongate your legs. High boots are very flattering as well. Wear medium to chunky heals with a bit of height to further elongate the legs. AVOID: Shoes and booties with ankle straps, delicate footwear and kitten heels as these will get lost in your frame.
  7. BAUBLES: Long pendant necklaces are your friends! A bold, bright necklace that hangs low draws the eye to your upper half which is fabulous. Integrate statement earrings into special looks that will frame your face as well, keeping in mind that you should only wear one piece of statement jewelry at a time. Choose chandelier style or dangly earrings for the best effect.
  8. ACCESSORIES: Circle/infinity scarves are a great way to add pizazz to your upper body and can even substitute for a necklace. Wide belts styled over cardigans, tunic style tops and dresses flatter your frame drawing attention to your best asset—your waist.
  9. SWIMWEAR: A fold-over style bottom with cinching side strings that adjust at the waist and legs are perfect for your frame. If you have longer legs, consider an asymmetrical skirt or a flirty skirt bottom. A bandeau style top with a full coverage body one-piece is also very flattering. Halter style tops with twisted details can help add fullness to the body.
  10. UNDERGARMENTS: Your entire upper body can undergo a major transformation when you wear the right undergarments. Consider a padded bra or push-up bra. This will add volume to a small bust and accentuate your waist.

Cheers to a stylish you,

Jen Young
