1. The Pear {a.k.a. The Triangle}
Curvy hips, thick thighs, and a full rear are the key characteristics of the pear-shaped individual. Many pear shapes also have a small bust/chest, narrow shoulders {compared to the hips}, and a defined waist.
what to do: Keep your proportions in check by drawing the eye to your upper body while de-emphasizing your lower half. You’ll look smashing with just a few stylish tricks!
2. The Apple {a.k.a The Circle}
Rounder shoulder lines and a flat bottom describe this body type. You have an average to big bust/chest and a fullness around the middle.
what to do: Legs are often an Apple’s best asset. If you tend to gain weight around the middle, clothes should fit loosely around the midsection (to conceal a full stomach) and more snugly elsewhere to play up thin limbs.
3. Stringbean {a.k.a The Rectangle}
Your hips and shoulders are pretty much the same width (you can measure them if you’d like to check), but your waist measurement is less than 9″ smaller than your hip/shoulder measurements.
what to do: With little definition at the waist, this straight-up-and-down figure is often considered boyish. Opt for styles that fit snugly at your middle but flare out at the bottom (whether it’s a skirt or pants) to create curves. Play up your shoulders to make them appear broader by adding embellishments or shoulder padding to your jackets {and no, we are not recommending the over-sized ’80s variety!}
4. The Peanut {a.k.a. The Hourglass}
Contrary to the body shapes of most supermodels, the hourglass figure is more round and curvy, with a well-defined waistline, fuller hips and bust/chest and generous thighs. Did you know that only 8.4% of women have the hourglass figure? Considered as the dream figure, the subject of many paintings and sculptures, the hourglass is probably the most envied of all the shapes.
what to do: You can get away with almost anything you want … there are no hassles in dressing because your body is already well-proportioned. Always keep in mind that you should wear clothes that follow your body outline {similar to the carrot or inverted triangle}.
5. The Carrot {a.k.a The Inverted Triangle}
This body shape features a broad chest and wide shoulders, which are large in proportion to a narrow waist and hips.
what to do: Your best asset are your legs and your fashion goals is to accentuate your lower body, while softening your shoulders and upper body.
