WORKING WOMEN AND THEIR WARDROBE

Working Women's Wardrobe

October is a month of celebration. It’s the start of Fall, the beginning of the holiday season, and a month full of great causes like Breast Cancer Awareness. Considering all the greatness that October holds, I want to add to the fun! This month I will be focusing on working women entrepreneurs and their inspiring attitudes towards business and life!

I usually don’t limit my styling ideas to a capsule wardrobe… But when it comes to being a busy working woman, sometimes simple and fool-proof is necessary. So instead of saying my entrepreneur ladies need to stick to a 30-something piece wardrobe, I want to show you a few key pieces from each category I think help the working professional’s life go round!

[show_ms_widget id=”35990746″ image_id=”41850081″ width=”600″ height=”310″]

OXFORD  |  TANK TOP  |  DENIM  |  TEE SHIRT

Talking about tops can really only lead to one thing… or in this case four! Every woman needs a white oxford in her wardrobe that she can pair with any pant or skirt. Add in a denim for a more casual look or to mix up your slack game, and end with the best two basics, a tee and a tank, for the PERFECT combination.

[show_ms_widget id=”35990747″ image_id=”41850082″ width=”600″ height=”310″]

BLAZER  |  DENIM  |  LEATHER  |  CARDIGAN

Though I do live in Texas, I find a great need for outerwear. It is good for mixing up an outfit and ideal for going from meeting to meeting as a busy professional. Add a little spunk to your wardrobe with an embroidered leather jacket or a longer cardigan!

[show_ms_widget id=”35990748″ image_id=”41850083″ width=”600″ height=”352″]

TEE SHIRT  |  PROFESSIONAL  |  CASUAL  |  COCKTAIL

Dresses are a great way to create an outfit without having to do too much thinking and compiling. I love a basic tee-shirt dress paired with heels or something a little more frilly like this lace number for your dinner meetings. As a working woman running her own business there is no telling where my day-to-day will start or finish. Having these classic options with such a wide range is key to your style success.

[show_ms_widget id=”35990749″ image_id=”41850085″ width=”600″ height=”352″]

JEANS  |  SKINNY LEG  |  WIDE LEG  |  SKIRT

When it comes to pants, I always tell clients a few things. First off, don’t shy away from skirts! It is a garment I don’t feel we go to often, but is an essential that really can dress up a look when needing something fresh and being on a time crunch. Jeans are also a thoughtful option considering the audience you are working with. Being an entrepreneur means we don’t always have to stick to the work office rules! You can dress jeans up and have an approachable look for new client meetings or more casual events. Hallelujah for that. Wink.

[show_ms_widget id=”35990751″ image_id=”41850087″ width=”1053″ height=”617″]

HEELS  |  PURSE  |  CLUTCH  |  NECKLACE  |  STUDS

Accessories are of course the most important part of any outfit. They are considered the finishing touches for your daily dressing routine. First things first, find a comfortable black heel. It partners with every outfit and will save your feet! Understated jewelry like this necklace and earrings are great for keeping your look fresh yet put together. Ladies, always carry a clutch in your work bag to transition quickly from day to night!

To tie it all in, here are a few looks made from all the fabulous items above!

Nordstrom’s Sale Must Haves

[show_ms_widget id=”35986810″ image_id=”41845097″ width=”1000″ height=”223″]

TOP  |  GLASSES | PERFUME | UNDERWEAR | SNEAKERS | SKIRT | BOOTIES | TOTE  | FLATS | DRESS | PAJAMAS | MAKEUP | TONING KIT | HOODIE | SWEATER

The time is FINALLY here! The Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale Pre-sale has begun and I am all kinds of excited about it. To celebrate this joyous occasion I am giving you my top picks from the sale, and a little more info on why I think you all might need these items in your wardrobe.

  1. Chelsea28 Bell Sleeve Poplin Top

This top is all that is right with the dramatic sleeve! Paired with skinny jeans or a pencil skirt, you can take it from work to play in a matter of stylish seconds.

  1. Sonix Parker 55mm Sungalsses

In the heat of the summer would there be anything more perfect to purchase at this blowout sale than a fabulous pair of sunnies? Some-times paying a pretty penny for accessories is hard to do. But this tortious shell pattern is great for pairing with both black and brown for a versatile option.

  1. Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb

There is little to say about this perfume except that it is one of my favorites! The smell is not overbearing and lasts all day long.

  1. Hanky Panky Underwear

I’ve said it before, and will say it again… Undergarments are the core to any wardrobe. Having the right items is crucial for making an outfit work. These Hanky Panky underwear are great for seamless lines and a comfortable fit.

  1. Vince Corbin Slip-On

The athleisure wear trend seems to be here to stay for quite some time, and I can’t complain! These slip-ons are great for running to the market or pairing with a dress.

  1. Hinge Barris Block Heel Bootie

In this summer heat it may be hard to picture yourself in booties, but these are an amazing pair I would suggest considering! They are stylish yet classic and will be great for the fall and winter season.

  1. Halogen Corbin Genuine Calf Hair Slide Loafer

Leopard is a neutral and my signature item. These flats are great for getting around town and perfect for throwing into your purse or luggage for extra-long walking days. Cute and comfort is no longer as hard to find, but it is always nice to have a few staples of it in your closet.

  1. Halogen A-Line Leather Skirt

Good leather is hard to come by and great to have. Halogen is a brand I love, and one I use for staple items for many of my clients. Having a skirt that can be dressed up or dressed down is great for your staple wardrobe.

  1. Halogen Flounce Back Shift Dress

Perfect for summer and great with a light jacket for all other times! I have really gotten into the shift dress this year and this one is not only adorable but the vertical lines are flatter on almost every body type.

  1. PJ Salvage Jersey Chemise

A place I see many clients ignore is their sleepwear. It is easy to throw on an old torn up tee or those oversized sweats you’ve had for years. I challenge you to step out of what is comfortable when it comes to pajamas. This little nighty is soft, and will make you feel fabulous when hitting the pillow.

  1. MAC Hooked On Nude Eye Kit

Every girl needs a little makeup in her life! This kit is perfect for staying natural but looking fabulous. I have always given kudos to MAC for their long lasting products, this kit is no different.

  1. NuFace White Trinity Facial Toning Kit

I will be the first to say that doing things to keep yourself feeling fresh and maintained is well worth it. If you haven’t used the NuFace Toning Kit this is a great time to test it out.

  1. Paint Stripe Transporter Leather Tote

The tote that can hold it all but doesn’t look like it! You can bring this to work, pack it for play or even use it as your carry-on. It is fabulous for the working woman!

  1. Adidas Original Trefoil Hoodie

Hello athletic staple item. I have to say; Adidas is a brand I am so happy to still see around. It is a classic look that you don’t have to feel bad about dressing down for.

  1. Nordstrom’s Signature Cashmere Pullover Sweater

Who doesn’t love cashmere?? Better yet, who doesn’t love it on sale! This is one of the Anniversary items that makes everything worth it. To have a piece of clothing with a usually steep price tag for just a pretty penny (almost but not really!) is why I love promoting this sale!

And for all my lovely clients who are wanting some help shopping through the sale, I have just a few spots left for virtual and in-person styling appointments! Email me to book: jen@foreverstyled.com

BAGS FOR EVERY OCCASION

We are always looking for outfit and make up tips for taking things from day to night… But what about the key accessory—the perfect handbag? I often times see stunning ensembles and on point hair but am thrown off by the bag.

Let’s face it, there are times in life we need to stuff our mom purses full of junk for the day’s activities, and times when we should leave it to a lip stick and credit card.

Here are some tips and tricks for selecting the right bag for every occasion:

Bags Tote

DRESS (SIMILAR OPTION) // BAG // RING // SHOES

When it comes down to it, bags can be broken up into two groups: work and play. My number one tip is to have your play bag fit into your work bag for easy access. A fabulous shoulder tote with a cute little clutch tucked inside is the way to go. Or just bring your clutch and throw it in the car to have it on hand!

There is also nothing more annoying than a bag that is too big for its own good. You know the kind. Your shoulder gets rubbed raw by the straps and you can’t find anything in it even if you dump it all out. Find a bag that can fit your planner, a small cosmetic pouch with touch-up make up, and your essentials like credit cards and keys. When you have excess things to bring with you to work, like lunch or important documents, put it in a separate shopping bag. I love saving my Nordstrom’s and Neiman’s bags for this. Or add a small protective insert that you can easily throw in to protect them from harm.

[show_ms_widget id=”35984932″ image_id=”41842733″ width=”600″ height=”900″]

[show_ms_widget id=”35984933″ image_id=”41842734″ width=”600″ height=”841″]

Bags Clutch

CLUTCH // DRESS

And when it comes to play, I use this as an opportunity to have FUN! Clutches are the perfect excuse to mix patterns or add a new metal accent to your outfit to make a statement. Both the snake skin and leopard clutches shown are perfect options for throwing into your work bag and switching up your look for the night.

We’ve all been in a place where we tried to bring a larger bag to the party or dinner and had nowhere to put it. By going with a clutch or wristlet, you are assuring enough space to have more than enough room for your nightly essentials.

Workout In Style

Outdoor Voices

Hello fellow fashionistas, and maybe gym slackers like myself… Here is the deal, when life gets busy we must find ways to survive. Somethings gotta give, and the easiest one for me to set aside is working out. I mean, cutting shopping is not an option after all!

But something I’ve learned the hard way is that forgoing gym time really only hurts me in the end. As a hardworking mom of two with an entrepreneur’s spirit, skimping out on health is the furthest from smart I can be.

So what does a girl do when she is down in the dumps and unmotivated? She finds a new brand that makes working out feel like a new pair of pumps!

Welcome to the floor… Outdoor Voices.

Workout Outside

This sweet little shop is a new addition to Austin’s style scene, and a gem I can’t get enough of. With a neutral color scheme, comfortable pieces, and the perfect pocket placement, Outdoor Voices has hit the mark for workout clothes/athleisure wear.

If you aren’t sure what to purchase, or are new to the workout scene, Outdoor Voices has a great starter package to help with your shopping decisions. Get a bundled outfit and a free tote to go with! Like OV says, their clothes are “Essentials for Recreation. Nothing more, nothing less.”

I also love that this is a brand I can feel comfortable wearing outside of the gym. With just an added jacket, being ready for errands and meetings after the gym isn’t near as stressful. And most of all, I love how it makes me want to work out again!

Putting on a pair of OV pants with one of their comfy tops is the perfect motivator to get my booty out the door. When busy gets you down and frustrations are at an all-time high, remember just what a healthy life can do to for you.

Nude Heel How To

Nude Heel

Hello ladies…and Hello it’s almost Spring.

Let me make your mid-week blues a little more nude… From date night to wedding date, nude heels are a staple in every girl’s wardrobe. But finding a pair that isn’t sky high or too intense to stand on is always tricky.

Here are my tips on how to do it right, for day or for night.

Nude Pump

A casual heel is a first thought when it comes to this season’s bell bottom trend but I always seem to come up short when looking for one that is a good height and not killer on my toes. For this I always suggest looking for a great platform. The thicker the base the easier a shoe is for support. For us shorter girls, having those extra inches only means our bell bottoms can be bigger, making our legs look long like the models!

Nude Classic

What better way to do a professional nude heel than to look at JCrew? This entire outfit is made up of their classic, and statement pieces, and if you ask me it’s perfection! Pair a colorful pencil skirt with a rolled-sleeve shirt, add a statement necklace, and the perfect suede heel for a polished look. This shoe is a great heel height, and though simple, makes an impact when you walk in the room.

Nude Evening

And when it comes to stepping your style up a notch, I like to think of adding a little something to your simple heel. Try a shine finish or a buckle detail! Do something out of the ordinary with your nude heel. It makes a little black dress look as if it came right off the runway, and brings your outfit to a whole new level of chic.

Style Tip Of The Month: Athleisure Wear

Athleisure Wear Flat

Hey again, it’s your friend Jen here!! This week I feel the need to discuss a little something I like to call Athleisure Wear… and dig a little deeper into how it can go so right, and oh so wrong.

We all have those days where putting on a dressy dress and your highest heels just isn’t an option. Your feet are going to ache and your slip might ride, and it is the last thing you can handle. So what do we do? Grab those yoga pants and a ratty old tee. WRONG! I want to challenge you to NOT make your first thought be the easiest thought.

The new phrase “Athleisure Wear” isn’t hard to pull off, and thankfully it doesn’t have to be unfashionable for it to qualify as comfort wear!

Bomber Jacket

Feel the need to cover up in a comfy sweater {dare I say from college?} What about a bomber jacket instead? They are perfect for everyday wear and look fabulous when paired with a simple tank or tee. A rose pink or cream color keeps the look feminine, and dressing it up with an embroidered design is right on point with this spring’s trend report.

Here is the way I styled my fun animal print outfit bomber I got from Marshall’s recently. I added strappy heels and a layered necklace and clutch to take my look for a night on the town, but you could easily switch it out with funky tennis shoes to dress the look down.

Track Pants

When it comes to work out wear, bottoms might be the trickiest part of all. You have all heard it before, leggings are not pants! Let me repeat myself in a different way, “tights are also not pants.” That statement just couldn’t be more true especially when I see exposed hail damage peeking through on the backside or a few whale tails in sight. Cover it up people!

As nice as it is to slip on those Lulu’s, we all know there are more flattering things. Try a pair of track pants. You can go the traditional route, or even a sweat pant material. Having an elastic ankle allows for a structured look with a relaxed feel. Pair with a kitten heel as I mentioned above and you are all set.

[show_shopthepost_widget id=”2449199″]

Sneakers

From top to bottom, we can’t forget about the shoes. I have been on a sneakers kick lately, and my feet have never been so happy! We all remember going shopping for shoes before the first day of school. Having a new pair of pearly white sneakers was a great way to start the new year. With the latest in old school Adidas and New Balance you can feel the nostalgia all over again, only this time with a little more style!

Hope these quick tips will help you feel fabulous even when you head to the store or relax after a hard day’s work.

5 Ways to Style a Scarf

Happy Monday Fashionistas!

Hope you’ve been enjoying these cooler nights. Lord knows I have in my mid-life hormonal craziness!

Let’s face it–we’re in that weird weather transition where our days begin in the low 50’s and end in the upper 80’s. So how can we effectively look cute without losing our style sanity?

Let’s focus on 5 ways to style a scarf that can simplify your dressing routine and ultimately make you feel pulled together on these seemingly schizo days.

Here are five different outfits that utilize several types of scarf material, the latest trends, and also links to learn how to tie a scarf itself.

Outfit #1)

[show_ms_widget id=”35957667″ image_id=”41808871″ width=”293″ height=”512″]

One of my favorite looks includes a ‘faux infinity scarf.’ This is a great day to night outfit, especially topped with the leather jacket. It’s a smaller version of a blanket scarf but super elegant yet light enough to wear with a short sleeve shirt {check out this additional post to Style a Basic Tee for more inspiration}.

Outfit #2)

[show_ms_widget id=”35957671″ image_id=”41808875″ width=”322″ height=”502″]

Styling a basic shift or t-shirt dress paired with some riding boots and then accessorize with a wool or knitted type scarf is a “go-to” outfit concept for me. Try the figure eight or loop-n-through concept or simply let the scarf hang around the neck. Keep in mind, this style of scarf often looks best in the fall/winter months because of the bulk of the material, but it is a great staple scarf to have on hand regardless!

Outfit #3)

[show_ms_widget id=”35957564″ image_id=”41808759″ width=”305″ height=”512″]

Plaid shirts are still popular this season coupled with your favorite tall riding boots and jeans. Add a knitted infinity scarf to add more warmth as well as a simple pop of color/contrast. I will be showcasing this outfit myself over the holidays myself. Check out last weeks blog post for more Simple Holiday Outfits like this.

Outfit #4)

[show_ms_widget id=”35957675″ image_id=”41808876″ width=”373″ height=”511″]

This is the perfect professional ensemble if you add a blazer to this concept! Traditional trousers and a plain t-shirt paired with a fun loafer is adorbs. Get crazy and add the latest trend –the neck tie scarf. This dainty add-on can be tied in many ways as showcased in Audrey A La Mode’s blog.

Outfit #5)

[show_ms_widget id=”35957571″ image_id=”41808767″ width=”357″ height=”508″]

Last but not least, get inspiration with a fun skirt and over-the-knee riding boot. Maybe opt for a classic denim skirt or button front style, that is also trending, with a simple double wrap scarf to add some color and pattern. This is the most common type of scarf you might see in stores and something that can be worn all year around depending on the weight and pattern you choose.

So don’t delay–get your day on with the perfect accessory–The SCARF!

For all you visual learners–also check out this fabulous instructional video from Nordstrom called “How to Tie a Scarf.”

Cost Saving Tips For Shopping

cost-saving-tips-for-shopping

Hey Bargain Hunters!

Can you believe that Americans spend an average of $1,700 per year on clothing and accessories alone. Here are some of my cost saving tips as you pursue the mall and shop online!

Simple Ways to Save:

1.) Sell what you don’t wear: Your ROI {return on investment} increases when you put money back in your own pocket after you are finished with your garment.  Consider using online or in-store consignment options like Poshmark or The Real Real or host a swap party.

2.) Use coupons: Always search for coupon codes online {Coupon ClosetCoupon SherpaShooger, and Retail Me Not are my faves} and organize the ones you get in the mail for daily use when you are out and about. Subscribe to your favorite retailers online—especially for basics, to get regular sale information to your inbox. Some of my favorite discount sales sites include: GuiltHaute Look and Shop it to me.

3.} Read tags: Read the label before you buy. If you purchase a “dry-clean-only silk skirt,” you’ll keep paying for it every time you take it to the cleaners. Stick to machine-washables and save.

4.) Take care of your clothes: Invest in good hangers. Remember that “machine-washable” doesn’t equal “indestructible.” Wash your clothes on the gentle cycle in cool water and even line dry them; they’ll last longer this way. For delicate items or clothes that might shrink, hand wash. Take care of your clothes and you’ll get years of use out of them.

untitled-design-2

5.) Don’t buy it because it’s on sale: Don’t buy clothes unless you really need them – even if they’re on sale. Thirty percent off isn’t a good deal if you don’t wear it 99 percent of the time.

6.) Buy basics from generic brands: Your basics don’t need a designer label. Buy T-shirts, tank tops, and lounge wear from cheaper stores. I buy all my layering tank tops at Old Navy. The track pants I wear for errands came from Target. Simple cuts and solid colors don’t require a high-end designer.

7.) Proceed with caution at Outlet Malls: Outlet malls do have deals. They also have scams. Some outlet store clothing isn’t store overstock. The pieces can be actually made for the outlet mall, meaning they’re lower quality. And those “75% off!” deals – they’re not actually 75% off. Read the fine print and you’ll see that is the discount on the suggested price, not the actual retail price. It’s more a marketing gimmick than a deal.

Girlfriends window shopping

8.) Stick to simple garments—spend less of trendy stuff: Trendy clothes cost more and have a shorter shelf life. You could spend hundreds trying to keep up with the fashion magazines, only to realize you no longer adore those flared capris {ugh– hate those}  six months later.

9.) Shop discount stores: TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and Ross are fabulous resources to find name brands if you are willing to dig for them. These stores have overstock items that are often first quality at lower prices.

10.) Borrow what you only need once: If you only need to wear something once, borrow it from a friend or family member. You’ll save 100 % and won’t have a useless dress or suit filling up space in your closet. OR… check out Rent the Runway for amazing options to rent and send back! However, don’t rent what you’ll wear more than once over time.Tuxedo rentals, for example, can cost $85 to $100 on average. Rent three tuxedos and you could spend $300. Buy from a discount store or resale site like Craigslist, and you could spend much less and own the tux outright.

11.) Don’t skim on a swimsuit: When it comes to swimsuit shopping, it doesn’t pay to buy cheap knock-offs. A well-designed swimsuit will cost more upfront, but can last years.

12.) Shop the men’s and kids’ section: Women’s clothing is often priced higher than men’s and kids’ clothing. If you’re a woman looking for something universal, like a T-shirt or hoodie, check the racks in the men’s and kids’ sections first.

13.) Treat clothes shopping like grocery shopping: Make a List! I won’t go to the grocery store without making a list first, but I’ll blindly charge into the mall credit card in hand. That is the wrong way to go about it. The next time you shop for clothes, make a list of what you actually need and stick to it. Buy what you need—not what you want.

14.) Buy clothes that fit now: Only buy something if you can wear it today. Buying something a few sizes too small because you think you’ll lose weight later is a gamble. Even if you do, you may realize you don’t like the way that shirt looks on you are perhaps it isn’t suitable for your body type. Either way, you’ve wasted money.

15.) Shop out of season: Look for more pricey “essentials” at the end of the season or pre-season. Often times the best deals are found in those windows of time.

Hope these shopping tips help you reduce your overwhelm and the amount that comes out of your pocket!! What are your cost saving strategies? Do tell…

5 Essentials for Fall

5-essential-pieces-for-fall

TEE // PONCHO // PLAID SHIRT // BOOTS // JEANS

Hello Beauties!

Cooler weather is finally here–thank you God! Freaking out because you’re not prepared?

Well don’t.

Today we’ll cover the trendy 5 essentials for fall to protect you from the chill in the air. There are many different styles, colors, and shapes for each piece offered below so select those that fit your body type and personality!

1.) Poncho

This outerwear piece is a fashionable replacement for a traditional jacket or sweater if the weather allows. I adore the ones made with wool or cashmere material which keep your body warm and cozy.

[show_lookbook_widget id=”311859″]

2.) Plaid Shirt

Plaids are back in action this season and look adorable partnered with a fur vest, topped with a blazer or poncho, or layered with a basic tee and sweater.

 [show_lookbook_widget id=”311860″]

3.) Flared Jeans

These jeans were retro and hip for the spring but can also be taken into the fall/winter months. A darker wash is the best for every body type and can be accessorized with a belt and finished off with pumps or ever ballet flats. Try high waisted styles if you dare.

[show_lookbook_widget id=”311864″]

4.) Tall Riding Boots

I can hardly wait to pull out my tall riding boots with a pair of skinny jeans and a tunic style denim top. Black or brown can work but brown tends to be more versatile. Get crazy and partner these boots with white jeans to winterize that key essential from spring.

[show_lookbook_widget id=”311867″]

5.) Long Sleeve Tee

Like I mentioned in last week’s post {Four Ways to Style a Basic Tee}, this is such an easy and versatile essential for all year around. It can be easily dressed up or down. Make sure you focus on the neckline fits you best as you get creative on styling this key wardrobe ingredient.

[show_lookbook_widget id=”311856″]

I hope this summary of the 5 Essentials for Fall will help you take inventory and be smarter with your shopping habits.

What are your favorite places to buy fall clothes and your go-to pieces in this chilly weather? Share the love.

Fashionably Yours,

Jen Young
